“239 million people in sub-Saharan Africa suffer from hunger and malnutrition … Peace and security are the only way to reduce this figure to zero. Make the gun silenced thanks to the joint work for peace and development”, — said the Deputy head of FAO, Maria Helena Samedi on the sidelines of the 33rd ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union in Addis Ababa.
She noted that the UN goals for sustainable development include several key challenges, including a sharp decline in the number of people suffering from poverty, hunger and malnutrition in Africa.
“The goal of sustainable development aimed at accelerating progress on poverty eradication, hunger and malnutrition by the use of underrated potential of agriculture to intensify the efforts of individual countries to achieve the Agenda of sustainable development for the period till 2030”, — said the Deputy head of FAO.
